The Ritchie Valens Musical
The sun rises over the San Fernando Valley. Today is not only the day of the dead, but today, a mysterious conversion in the sky will create a rare lunar eclipse…there’s magic in the air. Luisa, a precocious, slightly awkward teenager, helps her grandfather Pascual run his magical music store, All In The Strings, in the heart of the Valley. She's been struggling to find her voice, her identity, but today isn’t about her. Today is Dia de Los Muertos, a day revered and beloved by the Mexican community. She and her grandfather have decorated an altar that celebrates many loved ones who have passed, among them, their hero...Ritchie Valens.
In another realm, hidden from our mortal sights, Angels have decided to take matters into their own hands and use the lunar eclipse to save Ritchie Valens and his legacy. Save the artist that had so much more to give and use Abuelo Pascual’s shop to do just that! As the lunar eclipse takes place, just at that perfect time when the shadow of the earth completely blocks the moon...magic happens! A portal opens inside Pascual’s store, as a lone wolf Angel named Lobo will travel through and arrive in Clear Lake Iowa, inside the Surf Ballroom just as the infamous coin toss between Tommy Allsup and Ritchie Valens is taking place on the Day the Music Died.
But today…the coin freezes in mid-air as the magic is about to begin. Our good Angel Lobo needs to retrieve the unfinished song that was left in Ritchie's heart when he sadly got on to that plane that took his life.
For Lobo and Pascual this song needs to be retrieved to help cement Ritchie’s legacy and save our young Luisa's future. But not all Angels are good and not all bad guys wear black. A mysterious force is among them…an evil. A cleverly disguised Angel has also appeared to ensure that Ritchie’s song…the song meant to inspire and elevate people around the world never gets released. It’s a race against time to not only save Ritchie’s legacy but to also save Luisa and her family.
